What is MY Healthy?

Hey friends!

It's been a few posts since I've talked about my experience with true recovery. I've been on this new journey for a couple of months now, although it feels a lot shorter when I think about it. Earlier, when I was trying to get some advice, find some opinions, and read about some experiences, I found a lot of inspiration on  Clare's and Ashley's blogs. Recently, I came across this post (by Clare) in particular, and it got me thinking.

I have more energy, my hair is healthier, I eat in a more "relaxed" way, my hips are learning the value of honesty (haaaa I'm so funny), and I've been feeling really good overall.

The thing is is that all of these accomplishments are a result of me doing the exact opposite of what most people deem "healthy." And I've struggled back and forth with that! But then I got to thinking, why should I feel guilty if living what is my healthy makes me feel so good?

My healthy is:

Eating two breakfasts.

Lots of healthy fats. And carbs. Mmm.

Lots o' fruit.

Lots o' veggies.

But also treats to balance that out!

Snaaacccckkkkz, between every meal and before bed.

Drinks with calories! And sugar!

Very little cardio. Absolutely no strength training. And indeed, I still take full rest days.

It's hard living in a health-obsessed world, trying to do the exact opposite for my own health. Today, magazines and the media insist you do a workout to "burn 500 calories!" or have the "perfect bikini body!" Even the healthy living blog world causes some of these returning thoughts and comparisons.

So I just don't read those blogs that I feel that are causing me mental stress, I've unfollowed some Instagram accounts, and I've been trying to "unplug" more in general. Who needs stupid comparisons, anyways? Ain't nobody got time for that.

Also, I'm learning to listen to my body more. Sometimes I wonder, how on earth can I feel so good doing so little working out (aka laying around all day)?! Isn't working out supposed to make you feel better?! But the more I listen to and TRUST myself, the better I feel. Took me a while to figure that one out, eh? It's not always been easy, but I've been really trying to truly enjoy and relax. I don't think I've ever given myself this much of a break before, physically or mentally.

I get frustrated. I miss working out. I miss strength training. I'm gonna miss my skinny jeans (but hey, luckily there are stores aanddd summaaaahhh).

But then, I don't miss these things at all, because I'm doing what best for me. And I feel really, really good! And that's what matters!

So this my darlings, is my healthy. Love ya'll, and have a wonderful, wonderful evening!

  2. This is amazing Jess! As someone who has been through recovery, I think everyone's healthy is different. The media tries to make it seem like there is one direct path to true inner and outer health, but it's really such a relative thing. Finding your 'healthy' is like finding your happy place. Some people thrive on low carb others on high carb. Some people skip all sugars while others can't live without dessert. We all have a differences, and finding what works for you is SO important! Trust your body and only compare your body to yourself! Recovery is SUCH a beautiful thing, and I'm so glad you're finding you way through it xx

  3. Love this x 1000000. I am seriously so inspired and motivated by you to just keep pushing on with this journey. It's so true that it can be downright frustrating to not work out, especially when the healthy living blog world seems to be going in the other direction at all times. But nothing lasts forever, and what you're doing for yourself right now is not only good for you now, but it will be great for you in the long run too. You're amazing, Jess. Know that.
